We stayed in a condo on Folly Beach and were a short bike ride from the ocean. Charlie was so excited about playing on the beach I was afraid it wouldn't live up to his memories. But it certainly delivered!
The drive down was atrocious. Anna refuses to nap in the car and squealed the entire way. My poor mom wedged herself between the captain's chairs in the back and fed her endless Goldfish to give our ears a break. Thank heaven it is only a 3 hour drive.
Even Charlie couldn't take it much longer.
We got there late Thursday afternoon. Charlie spent the evening exploring the marsh around the condo with my Mom, Anna went to bed, and the rest of us headed out for much-needed beverages.
Friday, we spent the afternoon in historic Charleston. We walked around town, then stopped off at a Ben and Jerry's to feed Anna. You can't enter an ice cream store with a 3 year-old and not expect them to want to eat, so Charlie had a before-dinner treat. Then we headed to a little authentic Italian restaurant where both kids shocked me with their near-perfect behavior.

Saturday was beach day. Charlie stepped foot on the beach at 9:30 a.m. and didn't once ask to leave until nearly 4 p.m. He and Daddy spent most of the time in the ocean, which couldn't have been over 55 degrees. Even Anna happily splashed around in a tide pool for awhile without seeming to notice the frigid water temperatures.
Sunday we headed back into Charleston on our way out of town for breakfast and a stop at Cupcake. This is a store that my brother's girlfriend found and knew Charlie would love. It was every cake-lovers heaven!
It was a great trip!
